Awards are given in conjunction with Schmitt Music

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Prize Recipients will additionally be awarded the Following:

Hvidsten Award of $1000 renewable annual scholarship toward a degree in music at Concordia College.  This scholarship will be embedded in larger music scholarships if received in the future.

A special invitation to the annual Concordia college Music Performance Scholarship event, where among many other music scholarships an outstanding student will be granted the newly established Christianson Music Scholarship of $100,00 over four years.

Two free piano lessons at Concordia College by artist piano faculty members, to help students prepare for their auditions and future musical development.

Competition rules and Repertoire Requirements

All competitors will play a 15 minute program of their choice.

All compositions must be performed from memory.  The competition will take place in Christiansen Recital Hall and will be open to public.

Concordia College Winter Piano Festival and Piano Competition will take place from Thursday, January 19th through Saturday, January 21, 2017.

The festival will showcase Concordia's music faculty: pianist Jay Hershberger, pianist Grigor Khachatryan, violinist Sonja Harasim, cellist Greg Hamilton, tenor David Hamilton, and guest artists pianist Alexander Djordjevic, violinist Dina Neglia-Khachatryan and violist Tim Nelson.

The festival will also feature select student body members of The Concordia Orchestra during the final day of the festival in the performance of Mozart's E-flat Keyboard Concerto under the guidance of maestro Stephen Sulich.

The festival will present the piano in many roles: solo piano performance, chamber music, accompanimental, and concerto.
